How to Clean Your Split System Air Conditioner Filter
A Five-Minute Job Worth Doing
The filters in a wall-mounted split system are easy to reach and quick to clean — yet most people never touch them. A clean filter means better airflow, lower running costs and cleaner air.
Step by Step
1. Turn the unit off at the wall
2. Open the front cover — it hinges upward on most models
3. Slide out the mesh filters — usually two lightweight panels
4. Vacuum off loose dust, then rinse under lukewarm water
5. Dry completely in the shade — never refit a damp filter
6. Slide the filters back and close the cover
How Often
Every two to four weeks during heavy use is ideal. In dusty areas or homes with pets, lean towards the shorter end.
When to Replace Instead
The thin mesh filters in a split system are pre-filters — they trap large dust but not fine particles. If someone in the home has allergies or asthma, ask us about a higher-efficiency upgrade or a supplementary filter for finer filtration.
